About
DAVE ARLINGTON

Why should I be on your narrator roster? For the same reason you’d want me on your trivia team. I know a little—and often quite a surprising amount—about nearly anything. I have a math degree from Penn. I’m a voracious reader and a news junkie. And I’ve also researched and written a couple of history books.

Have me narrate nonfiction, and from the start I’ll have a basic foundation in what your book is about. Since I analyze copy well, I’ll help the listener through those dense sentences with multiple clauses. As you might guess from my samples, a majority of my books have been nonfiction.

For your fiction titles, I will understand all the vocabulary words and their shades of meaning. It’s also relevant that—when I’m not narrating—you can find me solving puzzles (like all the word games in the New York Times). That makes me ideal for genres in which puzzles are solved—such as mysteries and many science fiction novels.

In short, your job as an audiobook producer is easier when your narrator is knowledgeable. Human Intelligence is the best response to the challenges of Artificial Intelligence. I think of it as my Super Power.

Here’s a short anecdote to show you can put your trust in me. At the time of the 9/11 attacks, I was a radio journalist working three blocks from the Capitol at the Voice of America. VOA trusted me to be the one to put together and voice every English language newscast worldwide that morning.

I also was prominent in commercial radio—for years as Washington DC’s family-friendly alternative to Howard Stern in the morning.

I can be your missing puzzle piece when you are casting an audiobook. And, if puzzles appeal to you, let me challenge you with the crosswords I construct (like the one that was printed in AudioFile magazine). To get you started, here’s a link to one of my crossword creations.
